"SHOULD I GRIND AND
MIX THAT FEED"

An old-timer once told us, "The
smoother the feed, the smoother
the animal." He was way ahead
of his time and used feeding
methods that today are recog-
nized as the right way to feed
farm animals. He carefully
ground and mixed his feed,
while his neighbors looked on
with awe, as year after year he
scored profitable results.

If you're a farmer, rancher,
dairyman or poultry raiser, you
know the value of a well bal-
anced feeding program for your
animals. You are manufactur-
ing a product just as we are,
only your product must eat the
right food to grow and make a
profit.

It's surprising how many pro-
ducers still use unground and
unmixed feed. With today's
competition, these producers
are discovering that a penny
saved is a dollar wasted. An ani-
mal needs a well prepared feed
program whether the job is to
lay eggs, provide meat, give
milk, or win the Kentucky
Derby!

Yes, it really pays to grind and
mix feed. Animals put on size
and weight much faster . . . and
with less total cost! This is not
theory, it's fact proven in Agri-
culture Colleges and on the
farm.

MODEL GM-6A

ALL PURPOSE GRINDER-MIXER

This model is the most popular Grinder-Mixer in America and Canada
because it combines all necessary features with basic economy of design.
Compact . . . portable ... it will grind and mix all types of feed from ear
corn to fine hay, anywhere on the farm, during all types of conditions.

Take note of the dependable Feeder Table. It has a governor-controlled
chain delivery and swings back to lock during transport. The grinding
unit is a famous 6A BearCat and the Mixer has exclusive Grain King
features that mix the feed thoroughly, rather than just move it from one
place to another. An easy-to-use Clutch Release allows you to operate the
Grinder or Mixer independently.

Unloading augers availr
able in9'and 13' lengths.
Adjustable up or down by
winch control with 240°
pivot.

MODEL GM-6A

GRINDER-MIXER WITH SWINGING AUGER

The addition of a completely adjustable auger feeder adds extra versatility
to this model. You can load from any position or angle, up, down, forward
or backward.

When you move to another feed door, there is no need to wrestle with
the feeder. Simply raise the auger with the handy jack, and swing it into
transport position.

This model also features governor-controlled feeding and a Clutch Release.
However, it utilizes the auger-type delivery for faster action with certain
types of materials. Other than the auger feeder, the two models are
identical in every respect.

"AS THEY SAY IN
MISS0URL.SH0W ME"

At the Nebraska Experimental
Station, it was discovered that
calves, for example, cannot de-
velop as fast on whole fodder as
they can when it is ground and
mixed. The Ohio Experimental
Station reports that grinding
and mixing aids digestion
whether it be corn, barley,
wheat or rye. The grinding dis-
solves the hard coatings of
many grains and thus exposes
the nutrients.

Remember this . . . feeding un-
ground feed is assuming all your
animals have strong teeth.
Feeding unmixed feed is assum-
ing one particular grain has
everything the animal needs.
You be the judge.

The reduction of waste is an-
other factor in favor of grinding
and mixing. The feed is eaten,
rather than half being spilt on
the ground where it can mold.
Still another plus factor is that
less palatable grain such as rye
can be mixed in the feed, and
the animals continue to clean
it up.

Swinging auger feeder
shown in transport
position.

Gone is the day of haphazard
feeding. Champion milk pro-
ducers, prize steers, and profit-
able poultry flocks are proof
positive that it pays to grind and
mix food in balanced rations.

"IN TOWN OR ON
THE FARM..."

Ihe term "Do-It-Yourself" is
sometimes thought of as a good
way to do something wrong.
Take the cartoon that shows an
amateur falling off a ladder . . .
it's always good for a laugh.

The difference here is that you
are a professional, not an ama-
teur . . . and there is no reason
in the world why you can't
grind and mix your own feed, on
your own farm, when, where and
how you want it!

How much extra does it cost to
haul roughage to and from town
for grinding and mixing? How
much will you save by the do-
it-yourself method? The an-
swers, of course, will vary
according to the individual op-
eration, but one producer told
us he saves $1,000.00 a year,
after he deducts $5.00 per work-
ing hour for equipment cost and
depreciation.

The process of preparing feed
on the farm formerly involved a
number of machines, namely
a tractor, grinder, mixer and
truck for hauling, plus an un-
limited number of gizmos for
loading and unloading. Today,
there is a compact piece of
equipment that combines these
machines, and works quickly
and efficiently, using the power
of your tractor, to load, grind,
mix, haul and unload ... all in
one operation! This machine is
most often referred to as a
Grinder-Mixer.

MODEL GM-2A-GRINDER-MIXER WITH
POWER DRIVEN ROLLS AND CUTTERHEAD

Here's the model that's anxious for high production assignments. It's a
long time favorite where large amounts of roughage and hay are ground
along with ear corn and small grain. It costs a few dollars more, but may
be well worth it for your particular operation.

The most notable additions to this model are the 2-speed power driven
feed rolls and the 3-knife cutterheads. The result is the constant hum of
high speed production.

The feeding is governor-controlled and the Clutch Release quickly dis-
engages the Grinder from the Mixer.

Model GM-2A with auger
feeder is also available.

BEARCAT GRAIN KING
ROLLER MILL AND MIXER

This combination roller mill and mixer is the answer to feed mixing
problems for poultry, beef and lamb feeders everywhere. You can save
hundreds of dollars yearly on feed bills . . . and make your feed where,
when and how you want it.

You can utilize high protein grain crops for more money in your pocket
at the end of the year. Through the proper use of concentrates and sup-
plements in balanced feed rations, you can increase profits tremendously.

You can save up to $5.00 per ton on processing costs alone. This machine
will perform the most exacting chores of your feed handling operation and
produce a highly palatable granular feed. You can "roll your own", add
concentrates, and have the exact ration you want. 12", 18", and 24"
BearCat Roller Mills are available with these portable units, and you have
your choice of 9' or 13' unloading augers.

Being put to good use on
a prosperous turkey farm.

"WHAT MAKES A GOOD
GRINDER-MIXER..."

W e manufacture the best
Grinder-Mixer available today
... or any day. Our firms (West-
ern BearCat and Grain King)
represent over 150 years of ex-
perience and service to the
American Farmer.

The BearCat — Grain King
Grinder-Mixer handles all types
of feed under all conditions, and
it will load and unload any-
where. This is no tin lizzy. We
built it to work and work hard,
year after year. It is so compact
and economical, you can grind
and mix your own feed, fresh
every day, at a rate of a ton and
a half to four tons per hour.

The cost of a BearCat Grain
King is comparable to that of
a two-row corn picker. Cash ex-
penses should run only about
35^ per ton. You can custom
grind and mix your own for-
mula, without extra handling,
and the equipment transports
very easily from one job to an-
other. The special features illus-
trated on the next page allow
you to adapt the basic Grinder-
Mixer or Roller Mill-Mixer mod-
els to your individual operation.

After you examine this equip-
ment, we hope you will ask
yourself three questions: 1.
Should I grind and mix my
feed? 2. Can I do it on my own
farm? 3. Is BearCat Grain King
my best buy? If the answers are
yes (and we think they will be) ,
ask your dealer for a field test.
He, like us, will consider it a
privilege to be of service.

GOVERNOR CONTROLLED FEATURE

The feeding mechanism of all BearCat Grain King models,
with traveling feed tables, is governor controlled. If the speed
of the grinding hammer cylinder drops below a certain RPM,
the governor clutch will automatically disengage and stop the
feeder until the grinder regains necessary speed. This impor-
tant feature means

there is no risk of your ^^^^■■■■ BHH * =^-

tractor overloading or
overfeeding the
grinder.

SWINGING AUGER FEEDER

... for the ultimate in loading convenience. Swinging auger
feeders are available with both GM-6A and GM-2A models.
Because this auger is completely adjustable and locks at any
height or angle, you can set up your loading operation much
faster and at any position, up, down, forward or backward.
When in transport, the
swinging auger feeder
locks into position ad-
jacent to the unit for
compact travel.

GRINDER

Here it is . . . the famous BearCat Grinder.
Basically, BearCat has two types of feed grind-
ers. One type (see cut-away view) features
power driven feed rolls and cutterhead, such as
the model 2A. The other type, such as the model
6A, has the same basic grinding interior without
the power driven feed rolls and cutterhead. A
major advantage of BearCat grinders is gained
through the use of concaves. This eliminates
dusty, powdery feed and results in smooth, cool,
uniform-sized grinding. The feed is ground under
the hammers and across the concaves, rather
than against the screen. You can grind uniform
feed as fine or as coarse as you wish. This grind-
ing action also allows you to handle wet or dry
feed and it always comes out cool, not hot, due
to this unique BearCat grinding principle. This
is the finest, most dependable grinder that has
ever been developed.

LET'S TAKE A

gjfof

NEWLY DEVELOPED CONCAVES (Grind-
ing Plates) - A unique BearCat feature.
These concaves are heavy ribbed for
longer life. There is precise coordina-
tion between the hammers and the
concaves. The result is cool, uniform
sized feed.

HIGH CAPACITY BLOWER - Here's a

big, optional blower for use where feed
must be blown long distances, or where
high moisture ear corn is to be ground.
The blades are hard faced for longer
life, and the housing is one piece
construction.

MONTANA AIR LIFT BLOWER -This air

lift blower takes over where standard
unloading augers cannot reach. It offers
efficient unloading into overhead stor-
age tanks as high as 30 feet. Fast and
quiet . . . there are few moving parts
to wear out. It is easily attached to the
Grinder-Mixer unit.

HEAVY TOOL STEEL SWINGING HAM-
MERS - Made of heat treated high car-
bon steel forging. Standard hammers
(left) weigh 3V2 lbs. each. The sharp-
ened head is 2" square. The hammer
can be turned to use two wearing sides.
Thin hammers (right) are used princi-
pally for small grain grinding. Four thin
hammers are used to replace one heavy
hammer. All hammers are mounted on
%" dia. hardened, high carbon steel
bolts.

LOAD FAST . . .

With a BearCat Grain King portable Grinder-Mixer or Roller Mill-Mixer , you only handle your feed once. These machines
do over 90% of the work. For loading, simply couple the unit to your three-plow or larger tractor. Load your supplements or
other feed additives first, then put the grain or roughage on the convenient loading table.

RAIN KING HAS THE EQUIPMENT

CLUTCH RELEASE

This feature allows you to disengage the grinder from the
mixer, if you desire. By disengaging the grinder, the mixer
will run independently. This clutch release offers amazingly
simple operation and saves a lot of time and back-breaking
work. Built to last, it is a favorite with farmers everywhere.

It is located, where it

belongs, on the same
'<bm»£» s ^ e °f the machine as

the feed table. There's
no need to match pin
holes or tug at a pul-
ley. The tractor does
the work.

LOOK INSIDE..

ADJUSTABLE WIND PROTECTOR -

Here's a feature that Be3rCat Grain
King has incorporated for your conven-
ience during windy days. It will prevent
wind from blowing feed all over the
farm yard. All you do is simply raise or
lower the shield, according to the
weather conditions.

CABLE WINCH -This winch lets you
raise and lower the loading auger effort-
lessly. There are no bothersome chains
or snaps and you never lift the auger
by hand. In addition to convenience, it
is also a safety advantage.

ACCU-MATIC WEIGHING ATTACHMENT

Another first. Here is a new BearCat Grain King addition,
for Roller Mill-Mixer units, that eliminates the guesswork
and lets you know, at a glance, the exact weight of the mate-
rial being processed. Precise scale mechanism and automatic-
trip will help make this new feature another carefully planned

attachment that really
makes sense. This
weighing unit is sim-
ple and foolproof. It
is available with or
without the swinging
auger feeder. The con-
venient meter tells you
exactly the number of
busheis loaded. If you
want to be sure of the
exactness of your ra-
tions, here's the an-
swer. Fits all sizes of
BearCat Roller Mills.

MIXER

The Grain King Mixer has features that you
may not find, even in the most expensive com-
mercial units. The tank handles an average load
of 4,000 lbs. and is specially formed to allow free
movement of the feed. Notice the tapered bot-
tom and special agitator arms. All the feed is
circulated and recirculated rapidly, for faster re-
sults under all conditions. The concentrate hop-
per can be loaded from either side of the machine.
You can keep an eye on the amount of feed in
the mixer, through the glass inspection windows,
conveniently located on the side of the tank.
This Mixer is perfectly coordinated with the
BearCat grinder. The whole process is flawless
and efficient to every detail. The famous Grain
King Mixer will handle any type of feed . . .
ground hay, grain, bulky items, earcorn . . .
you name it.

PINPOINT FEED CONTROL - You can

start, stop and unload the auger at any
speed, and without clashing the gears.
The V-belt clutch is for safety against
auger plugging. You can unload as fast
or as slow as you wish with the lever
controlled feed gate.

CONVENIENT LIFT JACK - This jack
raises and lowers the feeder easily and
positions it at the exact height you
desire. There is no lifting or tugging.

UNLOAD FAST...

After the material is ground and mixed, you simply drive over to your feed bunks or bins and let the unloading auger do the
work. Choose the length of unloading auger for your individual operation, or the famous Montana Air Lift Blower to unload
to heights up to 30 feet.
